Alleghany Moon’s music emerges from the historical acoustic music influences of the blues, jazz, bluegrass, and early country music traditions prominent in the southern piedmont, foothills, and mountains of northwest North Carolina. By blending these traditional sound, Alleghany Moon creates a music that contains all the flavor of these rich traditions encased within a fresh harmonious style that is impossible to classify. There is just something in their music that, regardless of your musical tastes, will grab you and pull you in. The music is always heartfelt and full of emotion. Alleghany Moon simply must be heard live to be fully appreciated.
Band Member Bios:
Cammie Collier Bio: (Lead vocal and rhythm guitar)
Lead singer, Cammie Collier, has a rich, thick voice that will take you on an emotional journey from the tear jerking heart breakers of classic country, through the jazz divas of the 1940’s, to the sultry blues reminiscent of the old south. Cammie's background in vocals and music comes from many different genres, mostly jazz, blues, gospel and bluegrass. She brings all these influences to the band, both in her arrangements and her vocal style. While her rhythm guitar playing is strong and consistent, the most quoted statement heard about her is, "You've got to hear this girl sing".
Scott Gentry Bio: (Acoustic bass)
Scott lives in Roaring River, North Carolina. Scott is a tremendous musical talent. He has an impeccable sense of timing, not to mention a wonderful ear for phrasing. Scott's playing on the bass is smooth, yet has special punch to it. He's played with a professional country band touring up and down the East Coast for over eight years. Scott enjoys Country Swing music and it shows in the special flavor it brings to the sound of Alleghany Moon.
Bill Joines Bio: (Lead guitar and harmonies)
Bill hails from Whitehead, North Carolina. Bill comes from a long line of bluegrass and country musicians. Bill's father Paul was a guitarist and vocalist, and Bill's grandmother Polly played banjo and fiddle and sang as well. So it's in Bill's blood. He's enjoyed playing bluegrass and old time guitar for over 25 years. Bill has played with such groups as, Grayson Highlands String Band, County Divide, Borderline, Acoustic Blend, Southern Breeze and now Alleghany Moon. Bill has a wonderful style all his own. Bill not only brings a wonderful talent for the guitar but also, his harmonies are great. He has an excellent ear for following the lead and he's a master of "blending vocals".
Chris Campbell Bio: (Mandolin and harmonies)
Chris began playing acoustic guitar at the age of fifteen and two years later he picked up the mandolin. He soon began playing in bluegrass bands as a guitarist and later as a mandolinist. During this time period, Chris discovered a fondness for the stylings and abilities of the David Grisman Quintet which led to an immersion into “Dawg” music. During the 90s Chris took a foray into the electric guitar world. He played in a rock band and studied modern blues. This stint was short lived however and he returned to the mandolin with a new passion and to date has continued to perform in the acoustic scene. Chris currently plays in a trio called New Dawg Revue. They play a music which blends elements of Bluegrass, Jazz, Swing, and other styles to create a unique sound. Chris performs with Alleghany Moon; which as Chris says, "defies the traditional norm." Chris enjoys a broad palette of music form Metal to Rock, Blues to Jazz, and Folk to Bluegrass. He aspires to promote these influences in his own music.
Jonh Boulding Bio: (Resophonic guitar, banjo and harmonies)
John began to play banjo at the age of ten. His musical taste ranges from bluegrass, blues, swing, country, rock, to jazz. His first love is still bluegrass. He also plays resophonic guitar and acoustic guitar. He has played with many professional acts including Wyatt Rice and Santa Cruz (founding member), Johnny and Jeanette Williams, The Severts, Piedmont Grass, and currently, for the past eight years as a member of The Shady Grove Band. He also sits in occasionally with None of the Above and enjoys playing with the Alleghany Moon band! John has also recently formed a band showcasing classic rock down acoustic style called Atomic Roots. John also plays in a trio with, Charles Pettee (of the Shady Grove Band) and Al McCandless (of the Red Clay Ramblers) called "Chuck and the Waggin' Ears."
