John Boulding’s father, Wallace, was a luthier, guitarist and singer. He passed on his love of music, as well as his talent, and luthier knowledge to John. While John has “unofficially” been in the instrument repair business for more than twenty years (in between traveling and touring with various bands), he officially set-up shop and named his business “Note-Able Repair” just 5 years ago. He also gives lessons at his shop in banjo, guitar, resophonic guitar, bass, and beginning mandolin.
John began to play banjo at the age of ten. His musical tastes range from bluegrass, blues, swing, country, rock, to jazz, but his first love is bluegrass. He also plays resophonic guitar and acoustic guitar. He has played with many professional acts including: Wyatt Rice and Santa Cruz (founding member), Johnny and Jeanette Williams, The Severts, Piedmont Grass, and currently, for the past eight years as a member of The Shady Grove Band. He also sits in occasionally with “None of the Above” and has the privilege of playing with the fantastic “Alleghany Moon” band! He has recently joined forces with the “Not Brothers” group, a local popular attraction, as well. He and his lovely wife, Robin, live in Mount Airy, NC with their dog, Oreo.
